Carbon Footprint Calculation Software

Calculating the carbon emissions of companies brings advantages such as monitoring the impact on climate change, as well as compliance with laws, risk management, and gaining an advantage over competitors. Especially for companies exporting to the European Union, it has become mandatory to include traceable and transparent emission data in production and supply chains. As a result of calculating the carbon footprint, companies with high emissions can be identified, and weak points in this area can be improved.

Carbon footprint calculation software is needed to prevent all errors that may be encountered during carbon footprint calculation and to create a traceable and comparable process. Our carbon footprint software was developed thanks to our long-standing carbon footprint and greenhouse gas (GHG) consultancy experience rather than being just a technical calculation tool. During the consultancy work we carried out in different sectors, the carbon management process was far from being sustainable because the data collection process was not centralized, the process was managed manually, the methodologies used were different, and traceability was low. With the software-based calculation method, it is ensured that emissions from different sources are collected in a single system, unit conversions are made automatically, and a report based on verified methodologies is produced by continuously integrating up-to-date emission factors from relevant standards. In this way, businesses can continuously use the knowledge gained in consultancy projects through the software; they can monitor and analyze their emissions and manage their reduction strategies in a data-driven manner.

Carbon footprint calculation, evaluated according to the internationally accepted GHG Protocol standard, is analyzed by classifying it under three main scopes:

• Scope 1: Emissions generated directly from sources under the company’s own control.
• Scope 2: Energy emissions such as purchased electricity, heat, or steam.
• Scope 3: Includes emissions originating from logistics, purchasing, supply chain, products, or services.

When performing corporate carbon footprint calculations, specific standards such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 must be used to ensure compliance with international standards. The guidelines in these standards provide clear definitions of how data will be collected, under which classification emissions will be calculated, and how results should be reported. By integrating these standards into the calculation software, a report output compliant with protocols and free from methodological complexity is created.
